Abyssal Zone
Hello? Reinforcements? Listen! We don't care about our mission; my team just wants to go home. Clear out this ship so we can escape. If you find any of us, we'll show you where the nearest Defixio is. We want nothing to do with those cursed things.
—Special Commander Haigos

The Abyssal Zone is a variant of Exterminate which involves the  Tenno assisting the Syndicates in recovering cursed Orokin Defixios.

Access to the Abyssal Zone on Ceres requires the possession of Abyssal Beacons. The beacons are purchased from any of the six main Syndicates ( Steel Meridian,  Arbiters of Hexis,  Cephalon Suda,  The Perrin Sequence, Red Veil, and  New Loka) at Rank 2 for  5,000. Upon mission completion, one  Abyssal Beacon is consumed from the player who started the mission vote.

This mission does not have public matchmaking, requiring players to form pre-made squads.

General

A covert team of Operatives, sent jointly by the Pledged Syndicates need help finishing a doomed mission to recover Orokin Era Defixios from a Galleon of Grineer raiders adrift in the Abyssal Zone, looming near Ceres. These tablets were plundered from an archaeological dig site known as Villa Irillia, former home to a powerful and debaucherous Orokin couple. They possess a certain cursed energy, inflicting those who carry it in sinister ways. Cut down the Grineer forces to keep them out of their hands and to clear a path for the initiates to make their escape. All while reaping the reward that lies within the salvaged Defixios.

Mechanics

In addition to standard Exterminate objectives, the Tenno must retrieve Orokin Defixios and bring them to Extraction. The Tenno may find hidden Syndicate Operatives who will call for help when nearby and appear as blue allied markers on the minimap; interacting with them will show the Defixio's general location on the minimap.

Defixios produce a red shimmer, a lantern glow, and a ghastly wail. 8 Defixios can spawn in a mission, but only one per player is required for extraction (4 in a full squad); bringing more Defixios than required provides no benefit. As a carriable, players are limited to secondaries and melee weapons while carrying a Defixio.

When most of the enemies have been exterminated, the Grineer will call for reinforcements, triggering an Eximus Stronghold and spawning Eximus in large numbers.

On The Steel Path, Nox enemies are much more common.

Defixio Curses

Carrying a Defixio causes a randomly selected debuff to take effect, tied to that specific Defixio. Dropping the Defixio will remove the debuff until it is picked up again.

Debuff Effect
Phantom Curse Gravity is reduced. Parkour Velocity is reduced.
Scarcity Curse Your Ammo depletes steadily. Battery weapons recharge slowly.
Echo Curse Take damage when you cast Abilities.
Hunter Curse Take damage as you move. Land jumps for a brief reprieve from this curse.
Exposure Curse Your Shields get removed.
Blood Curse Your Health drains steadily. Killing enemies restores it.
Weariness Curse Your energy drains steadily.
Shadow Curse Your light source dims steadily. Melee kills brighten it.

Location

Rewards

Abyssal Zone awards 6, 7, or 8  Vainthorn (8, 11, or 12 on The Steel Path, in addition to 1  Steel Essence) upon completion of the mission. These are used in the construction of  Dagath and  Dorrclave.

Notes

  • Operators cannot pick up Defixios.
  • The light levels within the Galleon has been lowered and dimmed, most likely due to the Syndicate raiders or the curses of the Defixios.
  • After three-quarters of the way through mission progress, it will turn into an Eximus Stronghold. As this mission also has a Steel Path version, which increases the drop rate of resources, this can make farming Riven Slivers slightly easier than normal Steel Path missions due to the abundance of Eximus.
  • On The Steel Path, Acolytes spawn as they would on a normal mission.

Tips

  • Defixios can appear on the minimap as a loot item via Loot Radar.
  • Parallax's Orokin Eye Air Support ability can highlight Defixios within range.
  • Golden Instinct can detect Defixios.
  • Defixios can be manually waypointed.
  • Consider rushing towards extraction and immediately depositing a Defixio, then kill the enemies as they spawn/move near extraction.
  • If a solo player wishes explore the map after depositing a Defixio, they have approximately half a second after depositing it to move off of the extraction point, without being automatically extracted.
  • Players can avoid having to deal with any of the negative effects of carrying a Defixio by simply picking it up with the warframe, then using the operator to get to extraction. When you switch back to your warframe, it will appear with the Defixio still in hand and instantly deposit it.

Trivia

  • Numerous Syndicate initiates can be found hiding throughout the Galleon:
    • Bim Pobberfoot

    • Volunteer Arjaris
    • Recruit Morganis
    • 'Last Chance' Marvey
    • Trainee Jarmel
    • Recruit Maralek
    • Luda The Hangnail
    • Trainee Goffler
